The Influence of Yoga in Other Areas of my Life
For me, yoga is more than the physical practice of poses or postures aka the asana. It’s easy to forget there’s a whole other 7 limbs to yoga that you won’t necessarily learn much about in a studio class. It’s a great mindset that I can apply to other areas of my life.
A great way to explain this is as follows:
Imagine your living room. Your living room is messy, dirty, cluttered and disorganised. You can never find anything when you need it and it’s not great being in the space. So you decide to clean it up, tidy a little and slowly remove the things that you don’t need or add benefit to your life. Eventually, you create a beautiful open space to live in and finally see what the living room truly looks like.
This describes the process of Yoga.

We are our own messy living rooms. Our minds cluttered, blurred by perceptions, clinging on to things that no longer serve us. Constantly congested and overstimulated by so many things. We are unable to see things clearly.
Yoga is the process of cleaning, clearing and tidying. Slowly creating space and beginning to stop the fluctuations of the mind so we can see things for what they truly are. No longer blinded by perceptions of the mind.
Gently peeling back the layers. Finding happiness, peace and love from within. Becoming truly free and discovering who we are. I can see the impact this has had on many areas of my life and it’s continually evolving even now as I learn more, practice more things fall away that aren’t working or serving me.
