My yoga this week 25/6/18
A question I get asked on a regular basis is how much do I teach and how much do I practice myself. Each week at the moment is different. Here’s how it was this week:Monday 75mins vinyasa flow practice 10mins meditationI went to a really wonderful class and experienced a different warm up sequence than I am used to. I hadn't checked the timetable properly and didn't realise the class was 75mins rather than an hour.Tuesday 1 hour Postnatal with baby classTeaching wonderful mothers with their little ones rolling around / playing in the mirror whilst we build up some core strength and stability.Wednesday 1hour Corporate class30mins Online class with a student in the US 1hr Hatha Class15mins Personal practice A yam packed yoga day and zipping around the place whilst praying for good internet / no tech fails to do my first online class. I was beamed into the living room of a great student and friend who managed to keep composure even mid flow when her kids had decided that they wanted to scream at each other and have a sibling moment.Thursday 30min Meditation 1hr Vinyasa Flow ClassI spend my rest of day online and doing digital marketing so it was great to take a break during the day and have a guided meditation session before vinyasa flow. It helped me to recharge and get back to the laptop world.Friday 30mins Online class with a student in the US15mins personal practice I had great plans for the day but they all fell apart! I still managed to get in a bit of personal practice and teaching my second online class.Saturday 1hour vinyasa class1hour private class (1 on 1)20mins MeditationNothing beats that morning satisfaction of going to class and then being set up for the day. I taught twice and then listened to my body. I took a long luxurious bath before a nap. I had a hen do to prepare for!Sunday 30mins Personal PracticeI didn't sleep well last night so Sunday was a relaxed and simple personal practice outside in the sunshine. Teaching hours - 5hoursPersonal Practice - 1hourClasses attended - 3hours 15minMeditation - 1hour This week I have been making a big effort to attend classes to improve my own practice and see the wonderful ways others teach. I leave all the classes with little snippets that I will test out in my own classes and my own practice. It’s a great way to keep teaching fresh and bring a new perspective to it. My online teaching is also a new development. I'd like to create something for people who aren't London based or for when I am on the move and students want to continue their practice with me. I have a couple of wonderful guinea pigs who I am working with on this. The platform I use means I can see them throughout the class and they can see me too. I usually make my video the main item on their screen. The online classes are helping me to improve my cues to guide a student into the pose or add corrections where necessary. I always ask for their feedback at the end of class then share my thoughts.
